Richard J.'s Story
Living in Thailand on the beach with Rung (my girlfriend) full time now for 4 years (started coming to Thailand in 2000 and loved it). For the last two years, I have been a volunteer, teaching Business English at a Redemptorist Catholic handicap school in Pattaya, Thailand.
After Salesian I went into the Army (VietNam 1966-1967 with the 1st Calvary Division). I married Christine Olivares (Conaty High)in December 1965. Graduated from Loyola University (B.S. Accounting 1973) and Golden Gate University (Masters in Business Taxation, 1986). Chris and I divorced in 1983 but are still good friends. We have two children, Erik and Yvonne, 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. I worked at Unocal Corporation for 24 years. I never remarried (rent don't buy). At age 50 I got fed up with corporate life and decided to give back to Salesian.
I was at Salesian for 9 years...Expand for more
(Accounting teacher, Alumni Treasurer, Assistant Dean of Discipline, Chief Financial Officer, Contributor, etc.). During this time I was part of the team that got the project for the new facilites approved with the Archdiocese (a hugh challenge);raised the funds and kept Salesian afloat during a financially troubled period while the facilities were being built. I feel very proud that as part of this team we were able to do so much for our community and for Salesian. I left totally exhausted from this commitment in February 2006. At this time the new facilities had been completed, Salesian had a full enrollment of approximately 400 students and was finally financially stable......Lets give praise to Manny Villarreal (principle at the time), Joe Finney (deceased), David Johnson, the Salesian Alumni, John Watkins just to name a few that made Salesian what it is today.
